I was chatting with someone today from another uni who was getting frustrated with their ICT. They apparently want all lectures on audio-visual. This is a problem with physio where so much is practical and about learning the movements etc. I like the idea of students engaging with the tut or whatever on Moodle and then coming to class prepared for a meaningful discussion. Not sure how you get that right if you have large numbers though.
Can't believe we have come to the end. I must say I am seriously exhausted and really looking forward to not having something constantly hanging over my head.
Best of luck to you all with the last tiny bit left over and hope to see everyone at graduation :)

Hi everyone - it seems we are all rather quiet. I hope it is because we are all developing and implementing madly!
I have been engaging with the evaluation stage. I have asked students for feedback but nothing as yet. I think it will be quite difficult as everyone is only able to focus on exams at this time of the year.
Anyway at this stage it is not that important. This has been a valuable exercise and I have enjoyed the structured way of working through from analysis to evaluation. It forces you to think of so many aspects that may otherwise only come to light after implementation. it has also been helpful to think of the intervention in the light of outcomes and learning as well as the technical aspects. I think the next step is to learn more about the technical processes with some workshops somewhere in the future.
I have included a simple emailing exercise, as well as the podcast, purely to go through this ADDIE process with it. It has been very helpful even though a working document is not exactly creative! The point was to try to come up with a solution to a problem raised by the students.
Enjoy the writing up of our last assignment.

development begins
Hi everyone
I hope you are all madly creating by now (ha ha!)
I decided this afternoon to try to record something for my podcast. I had to find a quiet area - my digital recorder is super-sensitive. I sat in a quiet room in my house ( I work from home) - only to find there was a pin tailed whydah pecking at the window non-stop! there was a very clear tic tic in the background! Crazy bird!
Therefore I tried another place but my husband came home and came in to say hello!
I gave up but I have learnt that getting a quality recording is going to be an issue!
Is anyone else trying out various developments? Hope you have better luck than I did.

design phase
This week has gone even faster than last week but I suppose, although I feel as if I haven't achieved too much, I am a bit further than I was last week.
I find I keep returning to the analysis and adding a bit there - and then deleting!
It is definitely helpful to work with this ADDIE model. It keeps me from going in circles - or at least my circles are smaller! I do find that I am not always keeping Design and Development separate in my mind.
I am keeping things simple - I figure it is better to do something simple better than come up with something complex and make a mess.
I am, being not so good with technology, a bit stuck on how to upload videos in a way that is easy for students to access. I tried sending a video this week. I eventually put it in Dropbox and sent the person the link but they said they couldn't access it but I don't know why. Does anyone have any ideas for me?

Hi everyone!
So glad to see some activity on the blog now.
I have responded to all comments but I see that only my comment to Taka has actually published????
I have found the Ruiz article (on our reading list) useful for background and found an article by Sandars and Lafferty called

"Twelve Tips on usability testing to develop effective e-learning
in medical education"

32: 956–960 helpful.
I met with some students today and had a chat to them about some ideas. Unfortunately they want all my ideas so will have to think carefully about what will work. I will probably try a pilot for something more sustainable next year.
I will need to hurry with something if I want these students to try it out as they leave in 3 weeks.

Analysis phase
It seems this module has already taken flight! After one week I feel as if I am so much further behind than I have been in all the other modules. I have a few ideas of what I could do and have asked students via email (due to time limits) for their comments and ideas. I have not had a single reply :(
In my research, I asked the 4th yr students about their experiences of doing home visits. One of the comments was that they would like a better hand over from one group to the next. I am toying with the idea of a blog or even some sort of voice recording where they can give each other feedback (feed forward?) on what to expect and so on. previously I have asked the students to write a "love letter" to the next group but have had mixed responses. Maybe those who don't want to write could talk.
My other idea was to make a video of a home visit evaluation in the form of a tut. I always do a visit with each new group at the beginning of the block and then prior to the exam I do a tut to sum up everything we look for in the exam. I thought that perhaps having a tut online that could be accessed as they wish may help them find their feet better earlier in the block and then they could do their own exam prep and I could then use that time for other issues during supervision time.
In the community block we try to encourage reflection so another possibility could be to use a blog for this but it would need to be assessed for them to actually do it.
One of my concerns is that we have a Dropbox with various resources but most students do not access it.
Anyway found the reading very interesting. Have concentrated on broad topics so far to get a bit of an overview. I have also tried to find physio specific articles but as usual they are quite limited.
Must start now to think a bit more in depth about it all.

hi again
Hi
Apart from Liezl, it seems as if there are no other posts as yet but I am scared I am somehow missing them. I found Liezl's almost by accident and posted and comment which seems to have disappeared??? It seems I am more technologically challenged than I thought. Or maybe it is that both my kids are not around!
I hope to hear from everyone soon.
