It seems this module has already taken flight! After one week I feel as if I am so much further behind than I have been in all the other modules. I have a few ideas of what I could do and have asked students via email (due to time limits) for their comments and ideas. I have not had a single reply :(
In my research, I asked the 4th yr students about their experiences of doing home visits. One of the comments was that they would like a better hand over from one group to the next. I am toying with the idea of a blog or even some sort of voice recording where they can give each other feedback (feed forward?) on what to expect and so on. previously I have asked the students to write a "love letter" to the next group but have had mixed responses. Maybe those who don't want to write could talk.
My other idea was to make a video of a home visit evaluation in the form of a tut. I always do a visit with each new group at the beginning of the block and then prior to the exam I do a tut to sum up everything we look for in the exam. I thought that perhaps having a tut online that could be accessed as they wish may help them find their feet better earlier in the block and then they could do their own exam prep and I could then use that time for other issues during supervision time.
In the community block we try to encourage reflection so another possibility could be to use a blog for this but it would need to be assessed for them to actually do it.
One of my concerns is that we have a Dropbox with various resources but most students do not access it.
Anyway found the reading very interesting. Have concentrated on broad topics so far to get a bit of an overview. I have also tried to find physio specific articles but as usual they are quite limited.
Must start now to think a bit more in depth about it all.
I think you are facing a serious buy in challenge from students. You cant then do it without them. However I think there is always a way to bring students around. Let me think about that.
